This series represents the principal bronze of Carthage in the late 4th–early 3rd centuries BC. The head of Tanit reflects the city’s Phoenician religious tradition, while the horse and palm function as Carthaginian civic emblems linked to North African cavalry and the city badge. These coins circulated across Punic North Africa and in Carthaginian possessions in western Sicily and Sardinia in the decades leading up to the First Punic War.
