Description

THRACIAN KINGDOM. Lysimachos (c. 305–281 BC). AV Stater (20 mm, 8.82 g). Diademed head of the deified Alexander the Great right, with the horn of Ammon. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ, Athena seated left, holding Nike and resting left arm on shield, spear behind; in left field, monogram KA above [control symbol].

A handsome example of Lysimachos’ celebrated gold staters, struck following his assumption of the royal title. The obverse portrays Alexander the Great as a god, wearing the horn of Ammon in a bold and lifelike style that became the dynastic hallmark of Lysimachos’ coinage. On the reverse, Athena is depicted in commanding presence, extending Nike in her outstretched hand as a symbol of victory and divine favor. The KA monogram, paired with the additional field symbol, identifies the specific magistrate or mint emission and allows for precise attribution in the standard corpora. Well centered with brilliant gold surfaces and strong detail.
