Julia Domna — Denarius, CERERI FRVGIF, Rome

Struck at Rome, from the long run of Julia Domna denarii issued through her husband's reign.

The reverse legend CERERI FRVGIF is a dative, "to Ceres the fruitful," the goddess addressed rather than described. Ceres sits left holding corn ears in her right hand and a torch in her left. The torch belongs to her search for Persephone. Obverse reads IVLIA AVGVSTA with the draped bust right.

Attributions are my own, made from the references listed. Ancient coins are not always

straightforward, and a reference can turn out to be wrong or open to argument, so please

study the photographs. They are part of the description, and if you read the coin
