Lot 609 · Consigned by bidder628
Hammer price $350.00
Description
Nice example, particularly the obverse, well above average for the type. Some wear at the high points but common for the type - the portrait is still in very good shape.
Struck at the premier Seleukid eastern mint (Seleukeia on the Tigris). Antiochos consolidated the gains of his father Seleukos and earned the moniker Soter ("Savior") for defeating the Gauls in Anatolia (later of "Letter to the Galatians" fame) and settling them peacefully in the interior.
