Scallop Shell, NO RESERVE

CALABRIA, Tarentum The scallop is Tarentum’s civic badge and the dolphin rider Taras astride the dolphin its principal type. The kantharos and cornucopia in the rider’s hands identify this issue among the many Tarentine dolphin-rider bronzes. The dolphin rider is Taras, the city’s founding hero and a son of Poseidon, carried safely to shore on a dolphin’s back; the scallop shell is Tarentum’s civic badge. The rider holds a kantharos and cornucopia, emblems of wine and plenty from the rich Tarentine land.

Check out my other auctions. I'll be running a good number of $1 starts with no reserve. In particular I will be running other Syracuse Greek bronzes of Sicily.
