Description
A historically significant, beautifully preserved ancient Greek silver tetradrachm struck in the name of Alexander III (the Great) at the primary Macedonian imperial mint of Amphipolis. This issue was minted under the authority of Kassander during his period as Regent of Macedon (c. 317–305 BC), prior to assuming the royal title himself.
The obverse showcases a powerful profile of young Heracles facing right, clad in the Nemean lion-skin headdress, framed by a smooth, deep ancient cabinet toning. The reverse features Zeus Aëtophoros seated left on his throne, holding a perched eagle and resting on a long scepter, with the vertical legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ deeply struck to the right. The reverse control marks include the distinctive symbols indicative of this highly sought-after Amphipolis series. Crucially, this specimen boasts an exceptionally thick, full-weight flan tipping the scales at a robust 17.00 grams, representing a high-quality silver strike with excellent fabric, solid details, and deep historical eye appeal.
