Note:
The Constantinopolis commemorative type was issued ca. AD 330 to celebrate the dedication of Constantine's new eastern capital, Constantinople, on May 11, 330. Struck at mints throughout the Empire, these coins circulated alongside the "VRBS ROMA" commemoratives. This example from Cyzicus, officina 15 (O), is scarcer than those from the first several workshops. The type is popular for its historical significance and attractive design.
Provenance:
From a private Florida collection.
