This Antoninianus was minted during the brief reign of Emperor Tacitus, a period marked by efforts to stabilize the Roman Empire following a series of rapid turnovers in leadership. The imagery of Clementia on the reverse underscores Tacitus's attempt to convey a message of clemency and temperance amidst political turmoil. The coin reflects a transitional phase in Roman coinage, becoming more billon as a response to the ongoing inflation and economic challenges facing the Empire. Tacitus’s rule, though short, aimed to restore confidence in imperial leadership and sustain the Empire's prosperity.
