Magnentius, AD 350-353. Uncertain Contemporary Imitation

Magnentius, AD 350-353. AE (bronze,1.06g, 12mm). Uncertain Contemporary Imitation

Obverse: Bare-headed and draped bust of Magnentius to right

Reverse; Two Victories holding wreath inscribed

Ref: Var. of RIC 310 (prototype)

Observation: This small-denomination imitation appears to be rarer than the usual barbarous issues with undeciphered inscriptions. Notably, the inscribed “V/III” within the wreath could not be matched to any previously recorded examples. It is therefore particularly intriguing and warrants further research.
