Elagabalus - A.D. 218-222 Silver Denarius with rare Horned Bust

A few coins of Emperor Elagabalus (minted around 221–222 AD) feature a small, distinct horn on his forehead, extending forward from his head. This unusual, short-lived feature is believed to symbolize his role as the high priest of the Syrian sun god Elagabal and is often accompanied by a laurel wreath.

Legend = the priest of the sun-god Baal & refers to Elagabalus’ priestly duties in his Syrian cult. Note the name is Elagabalus in the legend applies to the god & not to the Emperor
