Judaea. Jerusalem. Procurators. Porcius Festus under Nero AD 59-62. Prutah Æ

Under Nero, Festus minted AE (bronze) prutot in Jerusalem. These coins typically feature:

Obverse: Greek legend for Nero (ΝΕΡΩΝΟΣ) within a wreath

Reverse: KAICAPOC (“Caesar”) with date L Ε (year 5 = AD 58/59) and a palm branch

Such prutot are widely collected today and represent a tangible link to Roman administration in Judaea during New Testament times.
