Kings of Bactria Eucratides I, circa 170 – 145 BC Obol

Kings of Bactria — Eucratides I, Helmeted Obol (circa 170–145 BC)

This silver obol was issued under King Eucratides I, one of the most prominent Greco‑Bactrian rulers. Struck between 170–145 BC, the coin features on its obverse a draped and diademed bust of Eucratides I, shown wearing a Boeotian-style helmet adorned with a bull’s horn and ear, a hallmark of his militaristic iconography. The reverse depicts Heracles standing facing, crowning himself with a wreath, holding his club and lion skin. The inscriptions appear in Greek, consistent with Greco‑Bactrian coinage of the period.
