Description

MYSIA, Cyzicus. Obol, circa 450 BC

A small silver fraction from the prosperous trading city of Cyzicus in Mysia.

Obverse: Forepart of a boar left, often with a distinctive tuna fish above—a civic badge symbolizing Cyzicus’s maritime wealth.

Reverse: Quadripartite incuse square, typical of early Classical Greek fractional silver.

Struck during the city’s economic rise, these obols reflect Cyzicus’s role as a major commercial hub on the Propontis, known for producing high‑quality small silver used widely in regional trade.
