Julia Domna, a Syrian noble from Emesa and wife of Septimius Severus, was central to Severan dynastic policy; she was awarded the title Mater Castrorum in AD 195 and accompanied imperial campaigns. The Venus Victrix reverse promoted the regime’s military success during the Severan wars, linking the empress to victory and the security of the dynasty, a core message of Roman state coinage in this period.
