Sardis — Bronze, Herakles & Nike, Time of Nero
Lot B2005 · Consigned by Numis-Lens
Description
Struck at Sardis in Lydia around AD 65, during Nero’s reign, under the priest Tiberius Claudius Mnaseas. The civic obverse shows the laureate head of Herakles right with a lion skin around his neck; the profile remains visible beneath dark patina and granular surface deposits.
Nike stands left holding a wreath and palm, accompanied by ΣΕΒΑΣΤΗ, “Augusta.” The type combines the figure of Victory with an imperial title; the standing figure survives with the legend and attributes softened by wear.
