Thrace, Pautalia. Septimius Severus, AD 193-211

Thrace, Pautalia. Septimius Severus, AD 193-211

• Weight: 13.4 g (your scale) – matches the published 13.4 g example for this issue

• Diameter: ∼28mm

• Obverse: AVT K Λ CЄΠ CЄVHPOC – laureate head right, draped and cuirassed.

Reverse: OYΛΠIAC ΠAYTAΛIAC – tetrastyle temple left with cult statue inside (Asclepius), and to right the large sacred chest/cista (the panelled box you see) – this is the local Asclepius healing-cult type Pautalia is famous for.

Magistrate issue: struck under C. Caecina Largus, circa AD 198-201

It's not the common river-god or serpent type – the temple + chest pairing is much scarcer for Severus, and the dark green patina with sharp portrait puts it at a solid VF.
