Roman Republic - Q. Minucius Rufus (122 BC) (Dioscuri)

Beautiful coin with XF details and nice grey toning

Struck in 122 BC, the year of Gaius Gracchus's second tribunate, this denarius retains the Dioscuri reverse that had been the standard design of the denarius since its introduction around 211 BC. By this period moneyers were increasingly personalizing their coins, and within a few years the Dioscuri would largely give way to family-themed types. The X below Roma's chin is the traditional mark of value (10 asses), retained even after the denarius was retariffed to 16 asses.
