Obverse Inscription: • / REX W / SCVS (abbreviation for Rex Willelmus, King William), surrounded by + OPERATA IN VRBE MESSANE ("Made in the city of Messina").

Reverse Inscription: A three-line central inscription written in Kufic Arabic script, acknowledging the Normans' multicultural administration in Sicily. It reads al-malik Ghulyalim al-thani ("King William the Second").
