Description

Almohad: silver square double dirham, AH 558-668 (1163-1269 CE). Extremely rare larger denomination, double the weight of the usual square dirham. Elegant naskhi calligraphy distinct for this type. Album suggests that this type was probably not intended for general circulation, implying it is a donative or special issue struck for a particular occasion. Album Q496 (unpublished in printed title) (RRR). NGC VF35. Extremely rare.
