Description

Thai Ratanakosin Framed Manuscript Painting, ca. 1820. The piece comes from a Luparello or accordion type manuscript that depicted the life of the Buddhist monk Pra Malai, who traveled through the various stages of human existence and chronicled his travels, much as Dante did in the Divine Comedy. The present illustration colorfully depicts a maiden in ornate dress carrying two baskets of fruit. The picture retains nice original color and has the typical center crease from the folded section of the manuscript leaves. As an added benefit it is beautifully framed in a gilt lacquer frame with a green silk mat behind glass. The frame is 16" by 14". H. 11". W. 9"..
