Roman Imperial. Domitian, as Caesar under Titus, AR Denarius, Rome mint, AD 77–78. Obverse: CAESAR AVG F DOMITIANVS, laureate head right. Reverse: COS V, horseman galloping right with arm outstretched behind him. A dynamic and historically evocative Flavian issue struck during Domitian’s years as heir to the imperial throne, featuring one of the more energetic equestrian reverse types of the dynasty. Well-centered with an expressive youthful portrait and strong movement in the reverse composition. RSC 49a. 19 mm, 3.2 g.
