MYSIA. Pergamon. Contemporary imitation. Ca. Mid-late 2nd century BC

MYSIA. Pergamon. Contemporary imitation. AE (bronze, 7.53g, 19mm). Circa Mid-late 2nd century BC

Obv: Helmeted head of Athena right

Rev: ΑΘΗΝΑΣ ΝΙΚΗΦΟΡΟY; Trophy composed of helmet and armor.

Note: The crude and somewhat rugged style of Athena's head differs noticeably from that of the regular official coinage, supporting its attribution as a contemporary imitation.

Ref: SNG von Aulock 1374 (for imitation); cf. Naumann, Auction 33, Lot 155
