Description
Exonumia, 1861 (1961)-Token, CH. BU, Bashlow Restrike. Breen-8011. Silver. A lovely example of this numismatic oddity. The "Confederate cent" was struck in Philadelphia by die sinker Robert Lovett. However, no records exist of the CSA ordering htem and they were never delivered. The dies were acquired in the early 1870's by John W. Haseltine where a series of restrikes were made before the dies broke and were defaced. In 1961 they appeared once more and transfer dies were produced which struck these pieces. A very fun piece of Numismatic history for the curious or the seasoned collector. Original envelope included.
