[TIB] KΛAV / Frog with LI above (date).Pedigree: Acquired by owner in 1981References: RPC 5179; Dattari 171; Geissen 96; Kampmann/Ganschow 12.68Grade: Minor rough surfaces. Attractive light green patina. A seldom seen symbol of a frog on a coin. VF (re1185)For the Egyptians the frog symbol signified life and fertility. This arose based on the annual flooding of the Nile which brought millions of frogs each year as well as life. On coins we rarely see the symbolism of a frog. This type did not last after the Julio-Claudian era so the appearance of the frog is a delightful exception to the normal eagle found on coins from Alexandria.
