Note: The Safavid Empire (1501–1736) was one of the most significant ruling dynasties of Persia (modern-day Iran) and played a crucial role in shaping the region’s identity. One of the most interesting aspects of the Safavids is their establishment of Twelver Shi’a Islam as the official state religion, a move that fundamentally transformed the religious landscape of Iran and differentiated it from its Sunni neighbors, especially the Ottoman Empire.
