Description

Byzantine Anonymous Follis, specifically categorized as a Class B issue. Numismatists traditionally attribute this type to the reign of Emperor Romanus III (1028–1034 AD).

Obverse: Features a facing bust of Christ Pantokrator (Ruler of All) wearing a nimbus cruciger (a halo containing a cross). He is shown holding the Book of Gospels, with the identifying christogram IC - XC (Jesus Christ) in the upper fields.

Reverse: Displays a large cross set upon three steps. The inscription is divided by the arms of the cross, reading IS - XS across the top, bAS - ILE in the middle, and bAS - ILE at the bottom. This translates to "Jesus Christ, King of Kings."

Numismatic Quality: For a heavily circulated bronze series, this specimen exhibits excellent centering and notable strike sharpness. The facial features of Christ and the decorative elements on the Book of Gospels remain highly distinct, whereas these high points are typically worn completely flat on most surviving examples. The surface preservation allows the full religious iconography to stand out clearly, making it an excellent candidate for detailed provenance documentation.
