Description

Caesar: Crispus, son of Constantine the Great, Caesar AD 316–326

• Denomination: AE Follis, 21 mm / 3.8 g – exceptionally heavy, top 5% for type

• Obverse: CRISPVS NOB CAES – laureate head right, well-centered with bold lettering (photo shows full "NOB CAES")

• Reverse: CAESARVM NOSTRORVM – VOT V in two lines within laurel wreath – the "Vows of the Caesars" issue celebrating five years of rule

• Date: AD 320–321

• Reference: RIC VII type (cf. Siscia 161, Ticinum 135, Arles 258 – common type, but rarely this heavy)

• Condition: Even brown patina, no porosity, full wreath detail, all letters crisp

• Historical Note: Crispus was Constantine's talented eldest son, victorious at the naval battle of the Hellespont, executed in 326 in one of Rome's great tragedies – making his coins highly collectible.

This is NOT your average Crispus follis. At a massive 3.8 grams and 21mm, it dwarfs the typical 2.9–3.2g examples and feels like a true early-4th-century bronze in hand. The VOT V wreath is razor-sharp, every letter of CAESARVM NOSTRORVM is readable, and the portrait shows Crispus as the young, confident Caesar he was before his fall. A perfect "type coin" for Constantine's family – but with the weight and presence that advanced collectors hunt for. If you want one Crispus to represent the dynasty, this is it.
