Description

Beautiful coin, likely Choice VF grade with grey toning

The obverse of this denarius is one of the most intriguing of the Republic, combining the attributes of Apollo (laurel), Mercury (wings) and Neptune (trident) in a single head, often interpreted as the god Vejovis or a composite 'genius'. It was struck in 85 BC under the Marian regime of Cinna while Sulla was campaigning in the East, as Rome was drifting toward civil war.
