Description
This sharp, choice Very Fine Silver Tetradrachm (17.15 g) was struck at the prominent Phoenician civic mint of Aradus (circa 245–165 BC) in the name and types of Alexander III (the Great). The obverse features an impressively centered, high-relief portrait of young Herakles facing right, wearing the classic Nemean lion's skin headdress with well-defined, sculptural curls. The reverse shows AΛEΞANΔPOY beautifully engraved next to Zeus Aëtophoros seated left on a backless throne, holding a crisp eagle and a vertical sceptre. Maximizing its visual impact, the coin is struck on a characteristically wide, flat late-Hellenistic flan that beautifully displays its diagnostic control marks—a highly detailed regional palm tree emblem in the left field and the city's explicit AP monogram (AR) beneath the throne.
