Uncertain, AR Tetartemorion – Unique (?)

ASIA MINOR or Gaul (?), Uncertain, AR Tetartemorion  (silver, 0.17g, 6mm)

Obv: Plain globular surface

Rev:Triskeles-like or unusual trilobate three-armed device within an incuse square; an enigmatic design

Ref: Unpublished and apparently unique

Note: The style of the design appears Celtic in character, although an attribution to a Celtic mint cannot be confirmed. Asia Minor coinage is known for its remarkable diversity of local issues, many of which remain unpublished and occasionally surface through auctions and private collections. The presence of an incuse square is reminiscent of early Ionian coinage, where incuse punches were widely employed, yet the fabric and execution of this specimen differ from the typical examples. Consequently, the range of possible origins remains broad.

Nevertheless, the coin appears to be unpublished and possibly unique. Its unusual design, featuring a triskeles-like object within an incuse square, merits further numismatic study. Preserved in its original patina and struck with pleasing detail, this intriguing piece may hold considerable numismatic interest.
