Description
P. Nerva, Denarius, AR, Roman Republic, 113-112 BC, Minted in Rome. Weight: 3.84g, Diameter approximately 19mm. The obverse features a helmeted bust of Roma facing left, depicted with a shield and spear. Above Roma, a crescent symbol is present with a mark of value situated to the left. The reverse is inscribed with "P NERVA". It references Crawford 292/1. This coin exhibits a well-centered strike with moderate detail on both sides.
Historically, during the time of its minting, Rome was expanding its influence across the Mediterranean. The Republic was engaged in a series of military campaigns that required increased production of coinage to finance these efforts. This era was marked by internal political conflict as Rome transitioned from a Republic to Empire, making the denarius an integral part of that economic and political landscape.
