Caracalla, originally named Lucius Septimius Bassianus, was a Roman emperor known for his contributions to Roman citizenship, notably via the Edict of Caracalla in 212 AD, which extended Roman citizenship to all free-born males within the empire. His reign was marked by military campaigns and efforts to consolidate Roman power. Despite his political achievements, Caracalla's legacy is often overshadowed by his tyrannical rule and the infamous assassination due to a conspiracy within his ranks.
