Caracalla as Caesar (AD 196-198). AR Denarius. Rome Mint.

Early silver denarius of Caracalla issued during the reign of Septimius Severus before Caracalla's elevation to Augustus. The reverse depicts Mars Ultor ("Mars the Avenger"), one of the most recognizable martial reverse types of the Severan period.

Well-centered example with an attractive youthful portrait and strong historical interest as an early issue of the future emperor.
