Description
Ancient Roman Bronze Double-Sided Comb
Circa 1st-4th Century AD
Length: 62mm, Weight: 19.6g
Description:
A cast bronze double-sided grooming comb of compact size, measuring 62mm in length and weighing 19.6g. Features coarse teeth along one edge for detangling and finer teeth on the opposing edge for personal hygiene. The surface displays an attractive, stable green patina with scattered earthen encrustation from burial. Approximately 60-70% of the original teeth remain, with losses consistent with age and use. No active bronze disease detected. The small size and solid weight are typical of Roman-era personal combs carried for daily use.
Condition: Good for excavated bronze. Stable patina, no repairs. Expected tooth loss for age.
Provenance: From a private European collection, acquired prior to 2000.
