Description

Islamic, Ottoman Empire. Mehmed II Fatih ('the Conqueror'), second reign, AH 855-886 / AD 1451-1481. Mangir (Bronze, 1.43g, 14mm), Ayasluk, AH 856 = AD 1452/3

Arabic title: الدولة العثمانية، محمد الثاني الفاتح (فاتح القسطنطينية)، دار ضرب آياسلوك، 855–886 هـ

Obv: Coiled dragon to right; in field to right, the name of the mint

Rev: Royal legend within two circles, the outer dotted

Ref: Album 1309

Note: Issued under Mehmet II, this mangır reflects the early Ottoman consolidation period following the Fall of Constantinople. The coiled dragon motif and retrograde date anomaly make it an exceptional and enigmatic type, illustrating the experimental and less standardized nature of early Ottoman bronze coinage.
