Galerius as Caesar, AE Follis, minted in Siscia, AD 293-305. Weight: 9.69g, Diameter: 27mm. The obverse features a laureate bust of Galerius facing right, inscribed "GAL VAL MAXIMIANVS NOB C". The reverse depicts the Genius of the Roman people standing left, modius on head, holding patera and cornucopiae, encircled by the legend "GENIO POPVLI ROMANI". The strike is well-centered with a clear depiction of both obverse and reverse details. Referenced as RIC VI Siscia 81b. This coin was minted during the Tetrarchy, a system introduced by Emperor Diocletian to manage the vast Roman Empire by dividing imperial power among four rulers. Galerius, chosen as Caesar under Diocletian, played a crucial role in the administration and military defense of the empire’s eastern provinces. Coins like this follis exemplified the stability and prosperity envisioned by the Tetrarchic system, serving both as currency and a medium of imperial propaganda.
