Julian, known as Julian the Apostate, was the last pagan Roman emperor, whose reign marked a brief attempt to restore traditional Roman religious practices in the face of the expanding influence of Christianity. His policies, military campaigns, and personal philosophy have been subjects of considerable historical interest, with his reign representing a pivotal juncture in the transition from the classical Roman world to the eventual dominance of Christian institutions in Europe.
