Hadrian, one of the Five Good Emperors, oversaw marked stability and cultural flourishing in the Roman Empire from 117 to 138 AD. Renowned for his architectural projects, including Hadrian's Wall in Britain, he cultivated a period of relative peace after the expansive but turbulent rule of his predecessor, Trajan. This dupondius commemorates the emperor’s emphasis on military excellence and the virtues that underlined his successful governance.
