This catalog was developed based on research of private collections and specific Internet resources (e.g. Zeno).
Included are coins issued and circulated in the territory of Central Asia in the pre-Islamic period:
mainly in the territory of modern Uzbekistan, as well as Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Afghanistan.
This catalogue is the first comprehensive standard reference on this subject in nearly 50 years, since Smirnova (1981).
Similarly, the section on Khwarezmian / Afrighid dynasty coins is the first comprehensive (and now expanded) treatment of this subject since Sellwood's much used text.
The book covers coins from such regions as: Chach, Otrar, Ferghana, Ustrushana, Samarkand, Bukhara
and South Sogd, Northern Tokharistan, Khwarezm, Bukharkhudat types, and imitations of gold
Byzantine coins.
The highlight of this book are its fantastic, detailed illustrations of the obverses and reverses of each coin and countermark type.
