Issued during the early crises of the so-called Soldier-Emperors, the SPES PVBLICA antoniniani of Claudius II conveyed the promise of renewed stability after his victories over the Goths in 268. The type circulated widely in Italy and the western provinces, illustrating attempts to bolster public confidence amid persistent military threats and monetary debasement.
