Vologases I. Circa AD 51-78. AR Tetradrachm Kingdom of Parthia

Vologases I—known in Parthian as Walagaš—ruled the Parthian Empire from AD 51 to 78. He was the son and successor of Vonones II and founded the branch of the Arsacid royal house often called the Vologasids. His reign was defined by efforts to consolidate Parthian control in Armenia, conflicts with Rome (especially the Roman-Parthian War of AD 54–63), and resistance to internal revolts. He also promoted Parthian cultural identity and reduced Hellenistic influence, particularly in Seleucia.
