Description
Geta (as Caesar), denarius, AR, reign AD 198–209; struck at Rome AD 200–202, 3.31 g, 18 mm.
Obv. P SEPT GETA CAES PONT; bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev. SECVRIT IMPERII; Securitas seated left, holding scepter. Struck at Rome during the early Severan period. Cited in RIC IV as 20A. Elevated to Caesar in AD 198, Geta appears here with the priestly title PONT, a feature that dates this issue to circa AD 200–202. The reverse legend SECVRIT IMPERII emphasizes the Severan message of dynastic stability and the safeguarding of the state in the aftermath of Septimius Severus’s civil wars and eastern campaigns, projecting the role of the imperial heirs—Caracalla and Geta—in securing continuity of rule.
