Description

Geta as Caesar, Denarius, AR, AD 198–200, 2.78 g, 18 mm. Obverse: L SEPTIMIVS GETA CAES; bare-headed, draped bust of Geta right. Reverse: FELICITAS TEMPOR; Felicitas standing left, holding caduceus and cornucopia. Struck at Rome, circa AD 198–200. Reference: RIC IV Geta 2.

Raised to Caesar in AD 198, Geta was the younger son of Septimius Severus and junior to Caracalla; his early denarii from Rome with the FELICITAS TEMPOR legend promote prosperity and stability following the Severan victory in the civil wars, reflecting the dynasty’s consolidation before Geta’s elevation to Augustus in 209 and his death in 211.
