Description
Geta as Caesar, Denarius, AR, reign AD 198–209, struck AD 205; 3.64 g; 19 mm.
Obverse: P SEPTIMIVS GETA CAES; bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: PONTIF COS; Minerva standing left, holding spear and resting on shield. Rome mint; struck on a standard Severan denarius flan. Reference: RIC IV Geta 34B. Elevated to Caesar in AD 198 by Septimius Severus, Geta shared the imperial succession with his brother Caracalla. The reverse legend PONTIF COS records his priestly office and first consulship in AD 205, fixing the date and underscoring Severan dynastic messaging. Within a few years he advanced to Augustus (AD 209) but was killed by Caracalla in AD 211, after which his memory was officially condemned, making his Caesar issues key documents of Severan succession policy.
