References: RPC I 5289. Issued at Alexandria in Nero’s regnal year 12 (AD 65/66), this tetradrachm represents the closed-currency silver of Roman Egypt, distinguished by Greek legends and precise regnal dating. The L ΙΒ date mark allows firm placement amid Nero’s late reign, shortly after the Pisonian conspiracy (AD 65) and on the eve of his Greek tour (AD 66–67). Alexandrian tetradrachms circulated only within Egypt under the imperial prefecture, illustrating the province’s administrative separation from the imperial denarius system while affirming Nero’s authority through locally familiar iconography and language.
