Septimius Severus — Denarius, Apollo, Rome
Lot 3079 · Consigned by Numis-Lens
Description
Struck at Rome in AD 194–195, this silver denarius pairs the laureate portrait of Septimius Severus with Apollo. The portrait and its surrounding legend remain readily visible, with circulation softening the highest points.
APOLLINI AVGVSTO, “To Apollo Augustus,” accompanies the god standing left in a long robe, holding a patera and a lyre. The lyre and folds of the robe are clearly represented on the reverse.
