Description

Struck at Cyzicus in AD 331–334 under Constantine I, this civic commemorative depicts Constantinopolis, the personification of Constantinople. Her helmeted bust faces left in an imperial cloak with a reversed spear, with green deposits visible among the brown surfaces.

The reverse shows winged Victory standing left on a ship’s prow, holding a spear and resting a hand on a shield. The wings, drapery and prow remain distinct, with SMKA below the design.
