Lot B3025 · Consigned by Numis-Lens

Starting bid $1.00

Description

Struck at Heraclea in AD 317 for Crispus as Caesar, at a mint then under Licinius. The laureate, draped bust faces left with the consular attributes of sceptre and mappa; the portrait, drapery and much of the surrounding legend remain defined on the brown surfaces.

The reverse reads PROVIDENTIAE CAESS, “to the foresight of the Caesars,” around a camp gate with three turrets. The gateway and its courses of masonry are clear, with small surface deposits around the upper design.
