Alexander III (posthumous) — Drachm, Zeus, Sardes
Lot 518 · Consigned by Numis-Lens
Description
Struck at Sardes circa 323–319 BC, after Alexander III’s death, this silver drachm continues his name and types. Herakles faces right wearing the lion skin, with the portrait and headdress defined across lightly textured surfaces.
The reverse legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ means “of Alexander.” Zeus sits left holding an eagle and a sceptre, with a bee above ΤΙ in the left field; the seated figure and much of the royal name remain visible.
