Description

Struck at Antioch in 299–300, late in the reign of Diocletian (284–305) under the Tetrarchy. A large bronze on a broad, slightly irregular flan, it carries a laureate head right with IMP C DIOCLETIANVS P F AVG; the bearded portrait is strong, the legend softened on the left, with scattered green spotting.

GENIO POPVLI ROMANI — "To the Genius of the Roman People." The Genius, guardian spirit of the Roman people, stands left wearing a modius, nude but for a chlamys over the left shoulder, pouring from a patera and holding a cornucopiae. ANT in the exergue. The figure stands out well and the legend runs complete around the edge.
